Soften butter to room temperature by setting it out (do not microwave) because it will not soften, just melt.

Mix in the eggs and sugar and beat well.

Add salt, baking powder and baking soda; beat well again.

Add vanilla and buttermilk.

Add flour and mix it all in until an uniform dough is made.

Chill dough in the refrigerator at least 2 hours.

Cover with wrap to keep moist. Roll out about 1/4-inch.

Bake in oven at 350° to 375° until brown on bottom.

Use cookie cutters; brush with beaten egg whites and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
