Mix milk, soda, cream, sugar, butter and shortening.
Add egg yolks, one at a time.
Beat well.
Then add milk and flour.
Add vanilla; fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Add coconut and nuts. Bake in 2 layers pans, greased and floured, at 325Β° for 20 to 25 minutes.
