Irish Soda Bread
Irish Soda Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 c. sifted flour, 1/4 c. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. baking powder and 2 tbsp. caraway seed, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Preheat oven to 375Β°.
Grease 2-quart casserole.
In mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Stir in caraway seed.
With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until like coarse cornmeal; stir in raisins.
Combine buttermilk, egg and soda; stir into flour mixture until just moistened.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead lightly until smooth and shape into ball.
Place in casserole.
With sharp knife, make 4-inch cross, 1/4 inch deep in top center.
Brush with beaten egg yolk. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes or until done.
Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove.
Cool before slicing.
