Slice halibut into fillets 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick; put in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Pour wine over fish; let set 1/2 hour. Slice onion very thin and scatter over fish.
Mix mayonnaise and sour cream together; spread on top.
Sprinkle cheese on top.
Bake at 400Β° until fish is just set.
Do not overcook.
