Granny's Dark Rolls
Granny'S Dark Rolls is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. oatmeal, 1/2 c. whole wheat flour, 2 tsp. salt, 1/4 c. shortening and 2 tbsp. molasses, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Combine oatmeal, whole wheat flour, salt, shortening, molasses and honey.
Stir boiling water over and cool slightly.
Add egg and blend.
Stir in yeast.
Add enough regular flour to make a stiff dough.
Knead for 5 minutes.
Let rise until double. Continue as for any other roll.
If I want more rolls, I make my oatmeal and whole wheat flour to 1 cup each and 1 1/2 cups boiling water.
I use 2 instead of 1 egg.
