Cream brown sugar and shortening until lightly fluffy.
Beat in molasses and beaten egg; sift in flour, baking soda, ginger and salt.
Chill 2 hours.
Divide dough into fourths.

Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes at 350Β°.
Cool slightly.
