German-Style Sauerkraut Kugel is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 medium head cabbage, 3 tbsp. oil (original fat or drippings), 4 slices white bread, 1/2 c. flour and 1/4 c. chopped candied peel (orange, grapefruit, citron are fine), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Discard outer cabbage leaves.
Wash rest and chop or shred fine.
Saute in oil/fat until browned.
Soak bread in water; squeeze thoroughly and mix with cabbage.
Put in a large mixing bowl.

Grease a 10-inch tube pan well; pour in mix and bake at 325Β° for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until firm.
