Eleanor's Bread and Butter Pickles
Eleanor'S Bread And Butter Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers, 1/3 c. coarse salt, 5 c. sugar, 3 c. vinegar and 1 1/2 tsp. celery seed, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.

Put salt over cucumbers.
Cover with ice and mix.
Let stand 3 hours.
Drain and rinse.
Sliced onion may also be added.
Combine sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and turmeric.
Bring to boil and add the well drained cucumbers (and onions if desired). Bring to a boil.
Place pickles in sterilized jar and cover with hot liquid.
Makes about 5 pints.
