Economy Cake
Economy Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. dark brown sugar, 1 c. water, 1 1/2 c. raisins, 1/3 c. crisco and 1 tsp. cinnamon, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

Boil the brown sugar, water, raisins, Crisco, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt together for 3 minutes.
In a separate cup, mix soda, dissolved in hot water.
When the ingredients are cool, mix together and add flour, baking powder and English walnuts.
Pour into 2 round 9-inch cake pans and bake in a conventional oven at 350Β° for 50 to 55 minutes.
If you also want to use candied fruits, bake for another 20 minutes.
If you double the recipe, bake it in 1 (9 x 12-inch) oblong pan.
