Down Home Pound Cake

Separate whites; add 6 level tablespoons of sugar and refrigerate until rest of cake is mixed.
Cream butter and remaining sugar, beating until very light (this is important). Add yolks,
2 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and cream alternately, beating until mixture is light. Add vanilla.
Fold in egg whites.
Bake in greased floured tube pan at 300Β° for about 1 hour and 25 minutes or until done.
