Let stand 7 days. Drain and wash cucumbers.

Cover again with water and alum.

Let stand 2 nights.

Drain well.

Cover with sugar, layer of cucumbers and layer of sugar mixed with small amount of pickling spice.

Put in jars.

Sugar preserves them.
