Cucumber Pickles
Cucumber Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 gal. sliced cucumbers, 2 gal. water, 4 c. plain salt, 4 oz. alum and 1 gal. white vinegar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Cover sliced cucumbers with water and salt.
Let stand 7 days. Drain and wash cucumbers.
Cover again with water and alum.
Let stand 2 nights.
Drain well.
Cover with vinegar and turmeric. Let stand 1 night.
Drain well.
Cover with sugar, layer of cucumbers and layer of sugar mixed with small amount of pickling spice.
Put in jars.
Sugar preserves them.
