Crowd-Pleasing Baked Beans
Crowd-Pleasing Baked Beans is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 lb. dried great northern beans, 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar, 1/2 c. molasses, 1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. dry mustard and 1 tbsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Sort and wash beans; place in a Dutch oven.
Cover with water 2 inches above beans.
Let soak overnight.
Cover and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes.
Drain, reserving liquid. Add enough water to bean liquid to make 1 3/4 cups; set aside. Combine brown sugar, molasses, mustard and salt; stir well.
Layer half of the beans, brown sugar mixture, onion and bacon in a 4 1/2-quart casserole.
Top with remaining beans.
Pour reserved bean liquid over top.
Cover and bake at 300Β° for 5 hours.
Yields 20 to 22 servings.
