Soften warm water.
Combine sugar, salt and milk in a bowl; cool to lukewarm.
Beat in 1/2 cup flour.
Add yeast and in remaining flour.
Turn dough onto floured surface; to rest 5 to 8 minutes.
Knead until smooth and elastic.
Put into greased bowl; grease top of dough. Cover, let rise in warm place until doubled.
Chill in refrigerator 2 hours.
