Combine sugar, gelatin, coffee powder and salt in saucepan. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cold water.

Stir over low heat until gelatin dissolves.

Remove from heat.

Add milk, cream and vanilla.

Mix well.

Pour mixture into 6 cup refrigerator tray.

Cover and freeze until firm.

Remove to chilled mixer bowl.

Break into chunks.

Beat until smooth but still mushy.

Return to tray, cover and freeze until firm.
