Chocolate Icing
Chocolate Icing is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. milk, 1/4 c. white karo syrup, 2 sq. baking chocolate and 1/2 c. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Mix sugar, milk, syrup, chocolate and shortening in saucepan. Let come to boil, scraping sides until well dissolved.
Boil 3 minutes or 220Β° on candy thermometer.
Remove from heat.
Let cool about 10 minutes.
Add vanilla and beat until spreading consistency.
(Can be thinned with milk or cream if allowed to get too thick.)
Will ice 2 (9-inch) layers 1 1/2 times.
Will ice 3 (9-inch) layers.
Creamy and good.
