Put flour, salt, soda and baking powder together in mixing bowl.
Push flour to sides of bowl, making a well in the center. Pour milk into this and place shortening in milk and blend together, making an emulsion.
Blend well and turn out on rolling board; cut into biscuits.
Have a greased, hot, cast-iron skillet ready to put biscuits in and bake in hot oven (425Β°) for 5 to 8 minutes.
Use cookie sheet (well-greased) if no iron skillet available (floured).
