Burnt Sugar Cake
Burnt Sugar Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 1/2 c. sugar, 3/4 c. cold water, 3/4 c. shortening, 2 eggs and 1 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Burn 1/2 cup sugar in steel skillet to a deep brown.
Add water and shake well until all sugar is dissolved.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add beaten egg yolks.
Add milk with flour that has been sifted 3 times with baking powder and soda.
Stir in burnt sugar liquid.
Then fold in beaten egg whites.
Bake in 3 layers at 350Β° until done.
Frost with caramel icing.
