Burn 2/3 cup white sugar to deep brown in iron skillet.
Add boiling water. Cook until like a syrup. Cool. Cream butter; add sugar and cream well. Add burnt sugar and beaten egg yolks. Beat well; add dry ingredients. Add milk, water, vanilla and stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake 40 to 45 minutes in 400Β° oven. Makes 3 layers.
