Bread and Butter Pickles
Bread And Butter Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 5 qt. sliced medium cucumbers (unpeeled), 1 tbsp. alum (powdered), 4 medium white onions, sliced, 2 large green peppers, chopped and 3 cloves garlic (whole), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Put cucumbers, onions, peppers, whole garlic and alum in large bowl.
Add salt and stir well; cover with crushed ice and let stand 3 hours.
Don't cover the crushed ice and cucumber mixture. After 3 hours, drain the mixture and rinse well.
Place in pot, then add sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar. Heat just to a boil, but do not boil.
Seal in jars.
Will make 8 pints.
