Combine all ingredients and stir until well blended.
Grease the sides and bottoms of three 1-pound coffee cans.
Fill each with 1/3 batter.
Cover tops lightly with foil.
Place cans on a rack inside a kettle.
Add enough water to come halfway up sides of can.
Cover kettle.
Bring to a boil.
Simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until bread is firm.
More water may be added to kettle if necessary.
