Amish Bread
Amish Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. boiling water, 2 tbsp. sugar, 2 tsp. salt, 2 pkg. dry yeast and 2 tbsp. butter, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Pour boiling water over sugar (2 tablespoons), salt and butter mixture in bowl and mix.
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water mixed with 1 tablespoon sugar.
Add yeast mixture to sugar, butter, salt and water mixture.
Add 2 1/2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add rest of flour to make a stiff dough.
Knead for 8 to 10 minutes or until elastic.
Place in greased bowl and grease top. Cover, set in warm place and let rise 25 minutes.
Punch down and divide into 3 sections.
Roll jelly roll fashion and place in greased loaf pans.
Slash top of dough every 1/2-inch with knife. Brush top with mixture of egg yolk and milk.
Let rise in a warm place until doubled.
Preheat oven to 400° and bake bread for 10 minutes.
Then reduce heat to 350° and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
