Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
Cut in butter. Add sugar and currants.
Make a stiff dough with egg and a little water or milk.
Roll out 1/4-inch thick and cut into 2-inch circles.
Bake on griddle or in electric fry pan set at 340Β°, turning cakes once.
When cool, sprinkle with fine granulated sugar.
Serve warm or cold with marmalade.
