Toast pecans in 1/4 cup butter for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°. Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Cream 1 cup of butter. Gradually add sugar, creaming well.
Blend in eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Add vanilla and pecans.
Pour into three layer cake pans.
Bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.
