Snickerdoodle Cookies

Mix together 1 1/2 cups sugar, shortening and eggs.
Sift together flour, cream of tartar, salt and soda. Combine and chill thoroughly or overnight.
Pinch off small balls and roll in a blend of 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon (could also use chopped nuts or cocoa).
Place 2 inches apart and bake on an ungreased pan until light brown, but still soft.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in 400Β° oven.
