Line a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan with foil; lightly butter foil.
In a heavy 3-quart pan, melt butter over low heat.
Add sugar, milk and corn syrup; mix well.
Cook over medium heat, stirring often to 248Β° (firm ball stage).
Mixture should boil at a moderate steady rate over the entire surface, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Remove from heat; immediately add vanilla and walnuts.
Quickly pour into pan. Use a buttered knife to cut into 1-inch squares.
Wrap in waxed paper.
