Peel the potatoes and then slice them thin.
Make a white sauce out of the butter, flour and milk. Put half of the potatoes in a greased 2-quart casserole; cover with half of the sauce, salt, pepper and onion.
Add the remaining sauce.
Cover and bake in a moderate oven (350Β°) for about 1 hour.
Uncover and continue baking until top is browned.
