In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, cream and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until well mixed. If desired, chill dough for about an hour.
Preheat oven to 400Β°. Roll out dough, 1/3 at a time, onto floured surface to 1/8 inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. If desired, sprinkle with sugar. Bake 5 to 8 minutes or until golden brown.
