Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water and then add 1 teaspoon sugar. In a 3-quart bowl, add 1/3 cup sugar, shortening, egg, salt and 1 cup warm water.

Beat thoroughly and add dissolved yeast. Gradually beat flour into mixture.

Mix and knead with hands until dough becomes stiff to beat.

Place covered in a warm place and let rise until double in size, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Press down and place in refrigerator.

On the day you wish to bake, roll and shape as many rolls as desired.

Do this in early afternoon and allow rolls to stand in cool place.

Bake in a 400Β° oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
