Red Velvet Cake
Red Velvet Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 2 tbsp. cocoa and 2 (1 oz.) bottles red food coloring, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.

Cream the shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each.
Make a paste of the cocoa and red food coloring. Stir into creamed mixture.
Mix salt and vanilla with buttermilk. Add to creamed mixture alternately with flour. Blend soda with vinegar. Fold into mixture. Do not beat.
Pour batter into 2 prepared 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes. Frost as desired.
