Together shortening, sugar and eggs.
Make paste of cocoa and part of food coloring.
Add this mix and rest of food coloring shortening, sugar and eggs.
Sift together flour and salt.
Add flour and buttermilk alternately to cream mixture, starting with vinegar.
Add baking soda, then vanilla in batter; mix well.
In 9 x 12-inch pan at 350Β°.
Test for doneness; do not overbake.
