Red Velvet Cake

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Beat well after each addition.
Beat in cocoa and food coloring.
Sift together flour and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Sprinkle soda over batter.
Pour vinegar and vanilla over batter and stir until blended.
Bake in 3 greased and floured 8 to 9-inch cake pans at 350Β° for 25 to 35 minutes.
Ice with Cream Cheese Frosting.
