Red Velvet Cake
Red Velvet Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 2 tbsp. cocoa and 2 oz. red food coloring, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Thoroughly cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and beat well. Make a paste of cocoa and red food coloring.
Add to creamed mixture. Mix salt, vanilla and buttermilk together.
Add cake flour alternately with buttermilk mixture to creamed mixture.
Mix baking soda and vinegar together, then fold into batter.
Do not beat or stir. Bake in 2 greased 9-inch layer pans at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
