Red Devils Food Cake
Red Devils Food Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/3 c. cold water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Stir shortening to soften.
Gradually add 1 c. sugar, creaming together until light and fluffy.
Add salt and vanilla.
Combine 1/3 c. cold water and cocoa, beat into creamed mixture.
Add flour alternately with 1 c. cold water, beating well after each addition. Beat egg whites till soft peaks form.
Gradually add 3/4 c. sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.
Fold meringue into batter. Combine soda and 1/3 c cold water.
Stir to dissolve soda.
Stir into batter.
Mix well.
Bake in 2 paper lined 9 x 1 1/2 inch round pans in moderate oven. 350Β° for 30 minutes or until done.
