Old Time Bread Puddin'
Old Time Bread Puddin' is an moderately easy baked good you can prepare in about 1 hour 38 minutes. Made with bread, 1/2 in. thick (texas toast is best), eggs, separated, salt, c. raisins and t. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Break bread into pieces and toss with melted butter and 1/4 c. milk.
Place in 1 1/2 qt. baking dish.
Beat sugar and egg yolks together until well blended.
Add remaining 3 1/4 c. milk and mix well. Blend in vanilla, cinnamon, and raisins.
Pour mixture over bread.
Place dish in pan of water and bake at 300° for 40-50 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
Beat egg whites until foamy.
Add pinch of salt and gradually add 2 T. sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form.
Spread whites on top of pudding. Return to oven.
Raise heat to 350° and bake until meringue turns brown.
