Mardi Gras King Cake
Mardi Gras King Cake is an impressive dinner. Made with 1/2 c. milk, 1/2 c. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 c. shortening and 2 pkg. yeast, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

Combine milk, sugar, salt, and shortening in saucepan.
Scald, then cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl, then add eggs, lemon rind, nutmeg, milk mixture and 2 cups flour.
Beat until smooth.
Add remaining flour, a cup at a time. Knead on floured board until smooth and elastic.
Place in greased bowl, turn, then cover with a damp cloth.
Let rise in warm place about 2 hours.
