Lyn's Red Velvet Cake
Lyn'S Red Velvet Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs (one at a time), 2 oz. (2 bottles) red food coloring and 2 tbsp. cocoa, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

Cream together in mixer the shortening and sugar.
Add to creamed mixture and mix well the eggs.
Add and beat well paste made from food coloring and cocoa, vanilla and salt.
Add alternately to mixture the flour and buttermilk.
Remove from mixer and add the vinegar and soda (which have been mixed together).
Mix by hand; do not beat.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
I use a 9-inch pan and split the layers for frosting.
