Put first 4 ingredients in boiler and when mixture begins to boil, add the nuts.

Boil and stir occasionally until a little dropped in cold water makes a soft ball.

Remove from heat and set aside to cool a short time.

Then add vanilla and stir until mixture begins to stiffen.

Drop by tablespoonfuls on a sheet of waxed paper.

If it becomes too hard, return to very low heat and add 2 or 3 teaspoonfuls of boiling water.

Then drop again. Yield: about 30 pralines.
