In a large pot, bring the milk, sugar and pinch of salt to a boil.

Add the rice.

Cook and simmer over low heat, uncovered, for about 40 minutes or until rice is soft.

Stir occasionally; set aside.

In a large bowl, mix the eggs, vanilla and half and half.

Beat until foamy.

Add all of this mixture to the rice mixture and bring to a slow boil, stirring.

Shut off the heat and place in a large casserole.

When cool, cover and refrigerate. Serve cold.
