Irish Soda Bread
Irish Soda Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 tbsp. softened butter or margarine, 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp. baking soda and 1 tsp. baking powder, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Heat oven to 375Β°.
Cut margarine into flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt until mixture is like fine crumbs. Stir in raisins and just enough buttermilk so dough leaves side of bowl.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.
Knead until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.
Shape into round loaf.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Cut an "x" about 1/2-inch deep through loaf with floured knife.
Bake until golden brown, 30 to 45 minutes.
Brush with melted butter.
