Irish Soda Bread
Irish Soda Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 c. flour, 1/4 c. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. baking powder and 1 tsp. baking soda, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
In a mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in caraway seed and raisins.
Combine buttermilk and egg. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
Turn out onto a floured surface and knead lightly until smooth.
Shape dough into a ball and place on a greased baking pan.
Pat into a 7-inch round loaf.
Cut a 4-inch cross about 1/4-inch deep on top to allow for expansion.
Brush top with milk.
Bake at 375Β° for 1 hour or until golden brown.
