Together butter, shortening and sugar.
(Note: You may
1/2 cup of butter or 1/2 cup shortening in place of
1/4 each, if you prefer.) Add egg and beat together.
Sift flour with baking soda, mix together well, adding the vanilla and nuts. Divide dough into four.
Roll each into long rectangle tubes, using wax paper.
Chill overnight in refrigerator.
Slice thin and bake on greased baking sheets, at 350° to 375° for ten minutes.
