Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add the molasses and egg; beat well. Sift together and add the flour, salt, soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Beat until smooth. Use ice tea spoon to scoop up dough, then roll into small balls and dip in granulated sugar.

Place 2-inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325Β° about 15 minutes.
