French Breakfast Puffs is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. sugar, divided, 1 egg, 1/3 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sifted flour and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Cream 1/2 cup sugar, egg and shortening.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
Add creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
Fill 12 greased muffin pan holes 2/3 full with batter.
Bake at 350Β° for 20 to 25 minutes.
When done, dip puffs, while hot, in melted butter, then roll into 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixture.
Freezes well.
Serve hot or cold.
