Early American Cornbread
Early American Cornbread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. cornmeal, 2 c. boiling water, 2 tbsp. shortening, 1/2 c. molasses and 1 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Stir in cornmeal to boiling water and mix well.
Add shortening, molasses and salt and set aside to cool.
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water for 5 minutes.
Add flour and cornmeal mix; knead until smooth and put in greased bowl in warm place and let rise until double in size.
Knead; let rise again.
Bake at 375Β° for 1 hour.
