Slice bacon and fry until crisp.
Add onion and apple and cook until done.
Add sauerkraut; top with smoked sausage. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Prepare mashed potatoes.
Just before serving, drain liquid off sauerkraut mixture.
Remove sausage and add mashed potatoes to mixture.
Mix well and serve with sausage.
