Date Nut Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (7 oz.) pkg. sliced dates, 1 1/2 c. boiling water, 2 tsp. baking soda, 2 tbsp. butter and 2 egg yolks, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Scald dates; sprinkle dates with baking soda.

Add butter; let cool and set aside.

Beat egg yolks.

Add sugar, salt and flour; beat together.

Add chopped nuts.

Add date mixture; beat.

Fold in 2 egg whites (stiffly beaten); bake in a slow oven (225° to 250°) for 1 hour.

Makes 2 (8 1/2 x 2 x 4-inch) loaves or 1 (13 x 4 1/2 x 2-inch) loaf.
