Cookie Turnovers
Cookie Turnovers is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. shortening, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour *, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Mix 1 cup sugar, the shortening, eggs and vanilla.
Stir in flour, salt and baking soda.
Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Prepare filling.
Heat oven to 400Β°.
Roll dough 1/16-inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board.
Cut into 3-inch rounds or squares.
Spoon about 1 teaspoon filling onto half of each circle.
Fold dough over filling; pinch edges to seal.
Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Brush with milk; sprinkle with sugar.
Bake until very light brown, 8 to 10 minutes.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
Makes about 4 1/2 dozen.
