Congo Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 3/4 c. sifted flour, 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 2/3 c. oil (wesson or shortening) and 1 box light brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.

Set aside.

Melt shortening; add brown sugar to oil.

Stir well until mixed.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.

After each addition, add dry ingredients, nut meats and chocolate bits.

Mixture will be stiff. Pour into greased 10 x 10-inch pan.

Bake at 350Β° for 25 to 30 minutes.

After it has been in the oven a few minutes, shake pan so it will fall.

Remove from oven; when about cool, cut into squares.
