Chocolate Pound Cake
Chocolate Pound Cake is an moderately easy dessert you can prepare in about 2 hours 4 minutes. Made with c. vegetable shortening (i use crisco), c. sugar, c. all-purpose flour (sift 3 times), . salt and . vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Have all ingredients at room temperature.
Cream shortening and butter.
Add sugar and beat at medium speed for 5 minutes.
Add egg yolks and beat until the yolks disappear.
Stir flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa together.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
Add vanilla.
Fold in the beaten egg whites.
Pour into a 10-inch tube pan that has been greased and floured.
Bake at 325Β° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Let cool in pan for 30 minutes.
Remove from pan.
May be iced with your favorite chocolate icing.
