Chicken Tavern Style
Chicken Tavern Style is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (3 1/2 to 5 lb.) chicken, cooked with onion, celery and salt, slice without skin, 1/2 c. flour, 1/2 c. butter, 1 c. evaporated milk and liquid from 2 (3 oz.) cans mushrooms (1/2 lb. fresh), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Blend flour into butter.
Add evaporated milk and liquid from mushrooms.
Add chicken broth to make 4 cups of liquid.
Add turmeric, salt and oregano to liquid.
Cook until sauce is thickened.
Add grated cheese.
In flat baking dish, put 2 to 3 cups of cooked rice.
Layer chicken and mushrooms over rice.
Pour cream sauce on top and top with cheese.
Bake 30 minutes at 350Β°.
